Fire at Mumbai high-rise due to short-circuit, reveals report

Fire officials also maintained that a notice has been served to the management of the housing complex since the fire alarms were non-operational on the day of the incident.

According to Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials, the apartment was equipped with an in-built system that would allow appliances like ceiling fans and lights in the main hall room to be controlled with the help of a remote.

A detailed investigation into the fire incident that took place on December 15 on the 22nd floor of One Avighna Park residential building at Lower Parel has found that it was caused due to a short-circuit. No casualties were reported in the incident, said police.

Fire officials also maintained that a notice has been served to the management of the housing complex since the fire alarms were non-operational on the day of the incident. The December 15 fire was the second such incident reported from the housing complex in 14 months. In October 2021, a blaze broke out on the 19th floor of the building, killing one person. In the December 15 incident, two firemen were injured during the operations, and the fire brigade also had to evacuate more than 80 people from the high-rise. Also, one three BHK apartment on the 22nd floor was gutted in fire, causing a massive loss. Later, statements of the flat owners were recorded and a detailed inspection was carried out at the spot.

According to Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials, the apartment was equipped with an in-built system that would allow appliances like ceiling fans and lights in the main hall room to be controlled with the help of a remote. “Considering the intensity of the blaze, we can conclude that the fire must have broken out from that circuit in the main hall, and later spread to other parts of the apartment,” said the official.

Officials said that according to the recorded statement of the occupants, fire appliances like a gas oven in the kitchen were not operational, and no lamps were also lit inside the prayer room. “Even though the in-built firefighting system was operational, the alarms were not working, therefore, we have asked them to install alarms by issuing a notice…,” the official added.

Kolhapur: Electrical short circuit caused fire at foundry chemical unit

KOLHAPUR: As per the investigation carried out by the district disaster management department, the massive fire that broke out at the packaging and warehouse of a foundry chemical manufacturing company in Gokul-Shirgaon MIDC was due to an electrical short circuit.

The loss in the fire is estimated to be around Rs 3 crore.

According to the investigation conducted by the district disaster management department, a cotton curtain caught fire first after the electrical short circuit, following which the fire made its way to the stockpile of chemicals, which later became uncontrollable.

“The staff present at the unit threw a fireball for safety, but it led to low visibility. The establishment lacked fire hydrants and water storage, owing to which the fire tenders were called. The MIDC does not have its own fire tender, instead, the fire tenders from Five Star MIDC, the airport, Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Kagal town council had to be called,” said Prasad Sankpal, the head of district disaster management department.

Fire breaks out at gas agency-cum godown in Chennai due to suspected electrical short circuit, no injuries reported

It took fire service personnel more than two hours to put out the blaze that began on Tuesday night; gas cylinders were removed from the godown, thereby averting a major accident

Tension prevailed in the south phase of the Ambattur Industrial Estate in Chennai, when a fire broke out at a gas agency-cum-godown on Tuesday night. However, a quick response from fire and rescue services personnel who removed the liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders stocked in the godown, helped avert a major fire accident.

A senior official of the Avadi Police Commissionerate said the security guard of the private gas agency noticed flames emanating from the record room of the agency and immediately alerted the Ambattur Industrial Estate police as well as the fire control room. Fire tenders from three fire stations were deployed to douse the fire. The blaze was finally put out after more than two hours of fire fighting. Several files of the gas agency was destroyed in the fire, he added.

The Ambattur Industrial Estate police have filed a case, and as per the initial investigation, said the fire occurred due to an electrical short circuit.
